Panasonic AW-UE200 PTZ line adds 1.2-inch 5K sensor and new 22x zoom, firmware features due 2027

Panasonic unveiled the AW-UE200 family: four PTZ models that share a 1.2-inch 5K global-shutter MOS sensor, a new 22x zoom and updated outputs, with key firmware features scheduled for the third quarter of 2027.

Panasonic has introduced the AW-UE200 series, a family of PTZ cameras aimed at video-production applications. The line comprises four models and each is offered in pearl white (W) or black (K). All models share the same core imaging hardware and many of the same connectivity options.

At the centre of the range is a 1.2-inch 5K global-shutter MOS sensor that Panasonic pairs with a newly developed 22x zoom lens. The optical block covers 8.3-183mm at F2.8-F4.8, which Panasonic lists as equivalent to 22.5-500mm. Preliminary specification figures published with the announcement put effective imaging at approximately 14.0 megapixels and measure horizontal resolution at 1,800 TV lines in UHD mode.

Video outputs include 12G-SDI, multiple 3G-SDI lines, HDMI and IP connectivity. Panasonic specifies one 12G-SDI output and two 3G-SDI outputs, along with HDMI 2.0 that can carry 4:2:2 10-bit signals. The new models can deliver up to 2160/60p over SDI and HDMI, and the platform supports uncompressed 4K over IP through dual SFP28/SFP+ slots.

The AW-UE200 heads are designed for much higher motion capability than Panasonic’s previous PTZs. Motion ranges and dynamics in the announcement include a pan/tilt speed envelope that spans 0.004°/s to 400°/s and a peak acceleration figure of 1800°/s². Panasonic also says the head can reach its top speed from a standstill in approximately 0.2 seconds. The company offers versions with extended roll ranges and wider mechanical coverage to suit different installation requirements.

Power is handled by PoE++ (IEEE 802.3bt) or a conventional 12 V DC input. Audio fits into typical production workflows via a two-channel XLR audio input. Physical size and mass vary across the models, with published examples including approximately 7.5 kg / 16.53 lb and approximately 9.0 kg / 19.84 lb bodies; the case footprints include 212 x 308 x 248mm / 8.38 x 12.13 x 9.75in. and 270 x 324 x 258mm / 10.63 x 12.75 x 10.19in.

Panasonic has signalled further capabilities arriving by firmware. The company lists both JPEG XS transmission and high-frame-rate HD shooting as planned updates, each slated for the third quarter of 2027. The HD high-frame-rate targets are 120 and 180 fps. Panasonic positions these upgrades as part of the AW-UE200’s roadmap rather than immediate ship features.

On imaging character, Panasonic highlights the design goals for colour and artefact control, saying the cameras aim to produce "natural, low-distortion, low-flicker images." That description forms part of the company’s framing for how the new sensor and optics combine in everyday production use.

Connectivity extras detailed in the announcement include dual SFP28/SFP+ for IP workflows and a pair of 3G-SDI outputs alongside the single 12G-SDI feed. The package supports both 16:9 and 9:16 framing modes and can be powered over the network or by local DC supplies, giving system designers flexibility in studio and venue deployments.

Panasonic has not announced pricing yet. The company groups the AW-UE200 family as a 2027 product introduction and states the platform is aimed at video-production PTZ roles that benefit from a larger MOS sensor, broader zoom range and expanded IP and SDI/HDMI output options.

For facilities planning integration, the AW-UE200 offers a mix of modern IP ports and legacy SDI/HDMI outputs on a single chassis, and firmware updates scheduled for third quarter of 2027 will add JPEG XS and higher-frame-rate HD capture. The new mechanical performance and the shorter start-to-top-speed time are intended to make the series more responsive for live and event work compared with earlier PTZ heads.

Panasonic has yet to publish regional launch details or dealer information for the AW-UE200 models; the company’s product pages give the feature timeline and technical claims for the series.
